7 Weirdest Scholarships that Actually Exist

Did you know that there are some exceptionally odd scholarships available to prospective college students? Often, when you’re getting ready to go to some type of secondary education, you poke around hoping to find various ways to finance the hefty expenses associated with college. It’s interesting to know that there are some truly bizarre scholarships that are out there right now waiting to be discovered by you.

Below are 7 weirdest scholarships that actually exist. Some of them may make you shake your head while other will send you into laughter. Enjoy.

The Chick and Sophie Major Memorial Duck Calling Scholarship

The World’s Championship Duck Calling Contest is a completion in which each person is given 90 seconds to use four duck calls (hail, feed, comeback and mating). Eligibility for the Chick and Sophie Major Memorial Duck Calling Contest is open to any high school senior in the United States. It is held every year in Stuttgart, Arkansas. The winning duck call gets a $1,500 scholarship. The second place winner gets to keep the duck!

National Association to Advance Fat Acceptance Scholarship- New England Chapter

This scholarship is made available to New England high school seniors who are single, overweight, and have maintained at least a 2.5 GPA. Every year two people are awarded the $500 prize.

The National Candy Technologists Scholarship

This is scholarship is a real treat for candy lovers. The American Association of Candy Technologists (AACT) awards a $5,000 scholarship to one food science or related field major each year. To qualify, the candidates must maintain a 3.0 GPA, attend an accredited four-year college, be either a sophomore or junior, and have a demonstrated interest in confectionery technology. (Basically, you would be getting money for liking candy. Go figure.)

The Fredrick and Mary F. Beckley Scholarship (Left-handed scholarship)

If you happen to be left-handed and you attend Juniata College in Pennsylvania, then you effectively meet the criteria for this obscure scholarship. Applicants can receive up to $1,000. Questions of whether right-handed people are cheating are better left unanswered.

Stuck-at-Prom Contest

Duck brand duct tape are the sponsors the annual Stuck-at-Prom contest, which awards $5,000 to the couple wearing the most interesting outfits created out of duct tape. The popularity of this weird scholarship should not be underestimated. Each year, the contest has well over 4,000 entries. If you’re willing to get creative with duct then you might as well join the ranks and have a chance at $5,000, right?

Tall Clubs International (TCI) Scholarships

This scholarship sponsored by Tall Clubs International is open to female applicants who are at least 5’10” and male applicants who are at least 6’2”. That’s right, it’s a scholarship based on how tall you are. If you win this scholarship, you could receive a $1,000 to go towards paying tuition.

The Goodie-Goodie Scholarship

The last weird scholarship requires you to attend Bucknell University. Beyond this, you must not drink, smoke, chew tobacco, take drugs, or participate in any form of strenuous athletic contests. There are different amounts awarded depending on the individual situation.
